8 Updates for a Better E-commerce Site Today
Make your e-comm site as easy, fast, and engaging as possible.
One of the most critical aspects of e-commerce is having a great website. You won't get many customers if your site looks outdated or doesn't function well.
However, there are many easy ways to improve your site's performance—without spending a lot of time or money.
In this post, I'll share eight steps to help you improve your conversion rates immediately!
Improve Your Conversion Rates
Conversion rate optimization (CRO) improves your website's ability to convert visitors into customers.
The goal is to increase the number of people who buy from you and decrease the number of people who don't.
There are many ways you can improve your conversion rates, including:
Optimizing your landing pages for mobile devices.
Using A/B tests on your website copy and images.
Utilizing heat maps or click-tracking software to see how users interact with different elements on the page.
Making sure that each page has an easily understood call-to-action (CTA).
Keep Visitors on Your Website for Longer
To keep visitors on your website for longer, try using animations.
They're effective because they engage the user and help them understand what's going on in a fun way.
For example, an animated GIF or video can show how the product works or what it looks like when used in real life.
Another great way to keep customers engaged is by including quotes on your homepage that relate directly to what they're looking for (e.g., "I love this product because..."). This will make them feel like part of a community right away.
You should also consider adding a call-to-action button near the top right corner of your homepage – this button should be clear so people know exactly what they need to do next (e-mail address registration form, anyone?).
And finally, consider adding an FAQ section below this button where customers can find answers before contacting support staff directly through live chat functionality.
Use Schema Markup for Better Search Results
Schema markup is a way to provide structured data to search engines.
This can help improve your site's SEO and make it easier for users to find what they're looking for on your website.
Use a tool like Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools to add schema markup.
Once you've installed this tool on your site, two types of markup can be added: Microdata and rich snippets (or structured data).
Microdata lets add information about specific items on your page without having them interfere with how that item looks in the browser window.
Also, you don't have to worry about whether the words "bread" or "loaves of bread" will look better in boldface; instead, just mark those words up using microdata.
Enhance Your SEO Efforts
As part of your SEO strategy, it's essential to use keywords in the following places:
Page titles. You can use up to 70 characters for this, so include your most crucial keyword(s) here.
URLs (aka the "permalink"). The maximum length is 255 characters and should also include relevant keywords.
Product descriptions. This section allows users searching for specific products on Google or other search engines to find what they're looking for quickly by reading through detailed reviews before making a purchase decision. Remember ORGs!
Optimize Your Product Pages
Optimizing your product pages is the best way to increase conversions, which means more sales and revenue.
What do I mean?
A good product page:
Attracts customers with an eye-catching headline and image.
Summarizes the benefits of this particular product in clear, concise language that describes its value proposition (and answers any questions they may have).
Lists critical features, specifications, and other details about your offering--like color options or size availability--so customers can easily see what's available for purchase before making their choice.
Increase Engagement with Live Chat Support
Live chat is a great way to increase customer engagement, helping you answer questions that may not be addressed in the FAQ.
How?
For example:
If someone is looking at a product but is curious if it will fit their needs, you can talk them through their situation and recommend another product that might work better for them.
Live chat can also help generate more sales by providing personalized recommendations based on each visitor's unique profile information--this includes things like location and browsing history as well as other data points (like what they've added to their cart).
The benefits continue!
Live chat also reduces customer service costs because it allows you to respond quickly when customers need help or have questions about their order status.
As a result, fewer calls are coming in, which frees up time for more important tasks like working with suppliers or creating new products/services for your business.
In addition, live chats mean increased conversion rates because people love interacting with human beings instead of robots.
Update Your Store's Title Tag
You should update your store's title tag to be more descriptive and relevant to the page's content.
A title tag is one of the most important on-page SEO elements because it appears in search results, so it needs to be unique for each page on your site.
The ideal length for a title is 55-60 characters.
If you go over 60, Google will truncate or cut off part of it when displaying search results.
Use Keywords in Your Meta Description
Meta descriptions are the snippets of text that appear below the title of a search result, so it's an important place to highlight your business and its products or services.
You can use them to encourage people searching for something specific on Google or other search engines to click through from their results list into your site, which will help increase traffic and sales.
Make sure every page has its unique meta description (that is, don't just copy and paste one repeatedly).
If you have multiple pages with similar content--for example, if you sell several items that all fall under one category.
It's OK to reuse specific keywords across numerous pages as long as they're relevant to both pages' content.
However, each page should still have unique text within its description that describes exactly what those products offer customers who visit them.
In summary
I hope the tips above have given you some ideas on how to improve your e-commerce website. Most importantly, keep trying new things until something works for your business!
Until next time, your friend Parrotfish.
